I just saw Cloverfield for the second time (tip: sitting farther back is in your best interest). Man, I love that movie. Specifically its concept and realism. It’s been a long time since Hollywood has put out a good scary movie. Today’s scary movies are lazy, doing things with gore and violence that they should be doing with suspense and imagination. In that sense, Cloverfield is a refreshing break from the norm.
Oh, and the noises? Creepy as hell. You’ll know what I’m talking about when you hear it.

Only two Thanksgivings this year, as opposed to the three of years previous. Tim’s Dad, brother, sister-in-law, and their two kids stayed with us Wednesday and Thursday and we had a big meal. Sadly, there are no pictures to accompany this other than this one of Ashland in her new toy, compliments of Tim’s grandmother.

I left Friday morning for Ohio and stayed at Stephanie’s house. Here she is with two of her three adorable children. I love these kids.

Steph, her husband (named Tim), and I played card games. During one game of Skip-Bo we were all stuck with four 11s. That almost never happens, and Steph said I should take a picture. I don’t know what else to do with a useless picture, other than spread it around, so here you go.

After cards, I headed over to visit Amber and her husband (also named Tim). We had some wine, some coffee, and watched Boondock Saints, which I had not seen before. Good movie.

Saturday was Thanksgiving with my family. We like to tease my mom because in her family she was always the tallest, then she got married and had kids and now look:

I love my brother. Can’t you tell?

And I really like this picture of my mom and I, despite the weird lighting effect. I think my finger was over the flash or something. Oh well. We’re still freakin’ cute.

Was there just some sort of Scottish holiday I am unaware of?
Yesterday I was walking home from Wal-Greens and heard bagpipes. I thought to myself, “Is there a parade today?” A car passed me on the road, and the bagpipes were coming from within the car. A guy, with his windows down, was blasting bagpipe music. What an odd thing to blast. I tried to look, but I don’t think the guy was wearing a kilt.
One day later, I was going down the stairs in my apartment building, and a guy (not the same one) was playing bagpipes. His name is Jacob and he’s actually pretty cool, but still. Coincidence?
They say things come in threes, so I’m waiting for my third encounter which, knowing my luck, will consist of being bodily injured by a rogue set of bagpipes. I’d bet that is a common problem in Scotland.
Anytime I hear “the pipes” I can’t help but think of the movie So I Married an Axe Murderer. “Piper down!”
“I’m not kidding, that boy’s head is like Sputnik; spherical but quite pointy at parts! Now that was offsides, wasn’t it? He’ll be crying himself to sleep tonight, on his huge pillow.”

I woke up early today and went out to the book fair before finally going to Target. You know, for a store that’s not really all that far away I put off going there like it’s my job. I’ve waited so long to go grocery shopping now, that I’ve managed talking myself out of it entirely with, “You get paid six days from now. Just wait until then!” and ended up only buying a few toiletry items like contact solution and conditioner–which will not wait six more days. This is how much I dislike grocery shopping.
But anyway, Book Fair goodness!

As much as I love books, I can never stay at this thing for too long–there are just too many people. A plethora of people is always a sure-fire way to put me on edge. I bought Neil Gaiman’s “American Gods” and Koontz’s “The Husband”. Thank you, overtime pay, for making these purchases possible. Have I ever told you that I love you?
Hmm, what else is going on? Surely there must be something…
**I tried to see Knocked Up with Andrea Friday night, but it was sold out when we got to the theater. And it looks like I missed seeing Hot Fuzz in the theaters. C’est la vie.
**I’ve said this before, but I’m getting a part-time job. Something just a couple days a week so that I can make a larger, faster dent in my debt. Mike-the-Bellman was very helpful in compiling a list of places to start applying. We also looked up my credit information and I was pleasantly surprised to see that my credit is pretty freakin’ great. I figured some things in college had screwed me over, but it had all dropped off. What a nice thing, this ‘dropping off.’ Let’s have a little more of that, please.
**Reid came over the other night and we watched Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. That movie is so bad that it’s good. We had a nice evening laughing at both cheesy dialogue and Kevin Costner’s mullet. And it never bothered me when the movie first came out, but Morgan Freeman as an Arab? Really?
Oh, and some bad news (to Daytonians). My manager needs July 21st off, which was the weekend I was going to be in Dayton for Julie’s wedding. I wish I could go, but I probably wouldn’t have been able to afford the trip anyway. At least, that’s what I’m telling myself to keep from being too disappointed. I miss you Ohio people. Sometime this summer I want to rent a car and mini-road trip myself over there.
