Walnuts

I do not like walnuts.  But I wanted some healthy snacks to eat in the afternoon at work–right around that 2pm mark when I get incredibly sleepy.  I thought to myself, “Hey, nuts are good.  And, more importantly, are supposed to be good for you!”  So I did some research on the healthiest nuts and discovered that walnuts top the list.  I’ve never liked walnuts, but right then and there I resolved to snack on them.  Cashews were #3 on the healthy nut list (almonds are #2 in case you were wondering), so I bought some of those as well and made a cashew/walnut mix on which to munch.  The cashews (which I do like) have helped, but I still have to fight the urge to grimace whenever I put a walnut in my mouth.  Oh well.  I’m making myself do it anyway.  At least until I get through this bag I bought.

I found this article which, quite honestly, excited me.  Apparently some kid was snapping lots of random pictures during a wedding that was being held in an old Scottish castle and managed to take a picture of what could quite possibly be a ghost.  It looks like a ghost to me anyway.  It made me think of the old ghost story days of the hotel.  But yeah–check it out for yourself.

Lastly, I already besieged a bunch of friends via email about this, but I wanted to throw something up on my blog as well.  My dad was laid off of his job.  Please, please pray for my parents.  He’s looking at in-state jobs as well as out-of-state ones (though they aren’t too eager to move again).  Please pray that something comes along quickly.  I would really appreciate it, and I know they would too.

Aquarians and Money

I was reading through The Onion and came across the Aquarius horoscope for this week–and the funniest thing I’ve read in quite a while:

“Goodwill and cheer will cause your heart to swell to three times its normal size this week, only to explode minutes later, spreading festive joy all over your respiratory system.”

I’ve been listening to a lot of Dave Ramsey‘s talk show and am really on fire.  I’m now on a financial plan, which is really just a fancy term for having no spending money.  Of course, I never had any spending money–the financial plan is merely the willingness to admit it to yourself.  ‘Cause I gotta say, I am bad with money.  Absolutely horrible.  I’m paying my stupid tax, and it has a high interest rate.  But NO MORE.  I have now taken control, thank you.

I need to be better with money.  My dad’s job is shaky again, and I want to be in a position where I could help my parents financially.  Because Lord knows they’ve taken care of my dumb ass enough times.  I don’t want them to have to worry, but I can’t do anything about it and that pisses me off.  So, yeah, time for change.  And if you could pray for my dad, light a candle, dance around a tree, or whatever it is that you do I’d really appreciate it.

I don’t usually talk about my feelings.  It’s like pulling teeth for Tim to get me to a.) admit something is wrong, and b.) talk about it.  I don’t even know why I’m blogging about this.  I’m not going to share anything here, either.  But I’m not okay.  I haven’t been for a while, but I get by because my main tactic is to push it down and forget about it.  I am amazing at avoidance.  Unfortunately, I came to that inevitable point where things wouldn’t push anymore, so I started drinking.  After a while that stopped working too, and I have since stopped drinking.  I was really down a week or two ago and freaked some of my friends out.  I freaked myself out, to be honest, which is why I finally started talking about what was going on.  So now they’re keeping an eye on me, which is good.

I’m seriously surprised I posted this.  I guess it’s here because I would appreciate a little prayer or tree dancing for myself.

Mom says a hippo would eat me up, but then teacher says a hippo is a vegetarian

I flew down to South Carolina on Thursday.  Friday was my brother’s birthday and as we were all eating cake and ice cream, my mom said: ”Want to hear something funny?”

She was looking down at her plate as she asked, and so I asked, “Who are you talking to?”
Mom: “Me.  Oh, I mean, you guys.”
[Everyone laughs.]
Dad: “Well, I think we just did.”

Food and Family

Only two Thanksgivings this year, as opposed to the three of years previous. Tim’s Dad, brother, sister-in-law, and their two kids stayed with us Wednesday and Thursday and we had a big meal. Sadly, there are no pictures to accompany this other than this one of Ashland in her new toy, compliments of Tim’s grandmother.

I left Friday morning for Ohio and stayed at Stephanie’s house. Here she is with two of her three adorable children. I love these kids.

Steph, her husband (named Tim), and I played card games. During one game of Skip-Bo we were all stuck with four 11s. That almost never happens, and Steph said I should take a picture. I don’t know what else to do with a useless picture, other than spread it around, so here you go.

After cards, I headed over to visit Amber and her husband (also named Tim).  We had some wine, some coffee, and watched Boondock Saints, which I had not seen before.  Good movie.

Saturday was Thanksgiving with my family.  We like to tease my mom because in her family she was always the tallest, then she got married and had kids and now look:

I love my brother.  Can’t you tell?

And I really like this picture of my mom and I, despite the weird lighting effect. I think my finger was over the flash or something. Oh well. We’re still freakin’ cute.

Nostalgia

So I was still feeling nostalgic today and went through my old photo albums. Here are some of my favorite pictures.

This was taken a long time ago, but I still love this picture of my family.

Here’s me and my brother, taken sometime when I was in high school.

1994–This was during my freshman year in high school. And these were my friends, one of whom was apparently practicing for some sort of career in the female entertainment industry. I never kept in touch with her, so I don’t know how that panned out.

1998–Jaime, Amber, and I. We were inseparable from junior high through college. I still love both of them. (And am seeing them next weekend! Yay!)

1999–College. One of my roommates freshman year and her boyfriend. They’re married now and have two freakin’ kids. Sheesh.

2000–For the college newspaper we made an attempt at humor with this recon thing where we tried to find fun happenings around campus. Here’s a picture from one of our adventures.

2001–And here’s Chris-the-Mormon, me, and Stephanie the Hard Rock Cafe in Washington D.C.

And now I’ve come to the conclusion that, other than hairstyle, I haven’t really changed appearance-wise since I graduated from high school.  I look exactly the same!  Is this a good or bad thing?
